it's hard to believe it was 14 years ago! I can still remember the roar in the pub when houghton scored. unbelievable. I look forward to the day (sooner rather than later I hope) when we qualify for a finals again.

Me too, This was the game that really made get into football. It brings back great memories. I just wish we qualified for more tournaments the whole countrie is buzzing when we play in the world cup. We have'nt got to the Euros in 20 years!!!!!!!

i got into football from this game, it was incredible and remains perhaps is the best an irish team has ever played. great revenge from '90, mcgrath was a god that day. yeah there is footage of this game on: 'Jack Charlton The Irish Years' DVD , you can get it off ebay im sure

Paul McGrath - better than all the rest. Not a great bloke but a fucking great footballer. Love to see how the over rated primadonnas Ferdinand (looks good because of Vidic) , Terry (looks good because of Carvalho) would handle looking after a rookie like Baab.

Funny I actually remember McGrath's 2 headers-1 tackle piece of brillaince better than the goal. I just remember the noise on my road when Houghton scored.

i'm english and it was a bit of a pain with england not being at the '94 world cup but my head nearly went through the ceiling when ex kop legend ray houghton scored that goal. thought the irish were cheated out of the following game against the mexicans.

Roy Keane is the greatest player to ever pull on the irish jersey. Paul McGrath was amazing in this game but how many times can we say Keane was amazing? too many.

Ahhh youth. Roy Keane barely scratches the top 4 with Brady, Giles and McGrath waaayyy ahead of the thug. In fact, I'd put mark Lawrenson ahead of him too. And someone older than me may remember even better players than them lads.

I've never been so happy about a football match, wonderful feeling that defies description. Them golden years would have continued if Keane hadn't gotten Mick sacked. Untouchable as a player but he had a bad attitude. How can you sack a manager that gets a team to the next round and only loses on penalties after a game that we should have won? Not Irish? Neither was Jacko but no-one worried then. Aaaaarrrrr... sorry, I'm suffering from Swiss related frustration.
