pele didnt play in '62 because of injury and brazil still scored goals... because of garrincha --- considered by a lot of brazilians/argentine... as perhaps the greatest player of all time. like i said, pele was great but he was never the key to winning world cups. brazil of those days were head and shoulders above the rest of the world. Then who contributed to Brazil's pass to the World Cup Final in 58'? Who scored 2 goals in the final against Sweden in 58'? You still don't think Pele took his team to the world cup final and win it? With Pele on the field, didn't Brazil win 3 World Cups?

pele was great in his time but he never "took his team" to the world cup. the guy was surrounded by immaculate talent -- when he got injured in '62, they got amarildo to score the goals and rolled to the championship. the key to the 58/62 championships was garrincha -- he only lost one game for brazil and that was his last game in 66 when he was wayyyyyyyy past his prime.

Dude, Ronaldinho is great but has he taken Brazil to win the world cup? NO! Because of who did Brazil won the last world cup, RONALDO! So, Zidane and Ronaldo (with 3 FIFA world player of the year awards along with top 3 nominations) are on a league of their own. So is Maradona and Pele and anyone who takes takes their team to the world cup and win it!
